A Study on the Students¢¥ Mental Health in the Nursing College


Abstract
This paper is aimed at investigating the mental health of college students who major in a nursing, comparing the standard groups with each other, and understanding the relationship between their mental health and their characters. The subjects of my study are sophomares of the nursing department of C junior college in Chongju city, and the total number is 257.
As a studying tool, used 47 questions which Lee Hoon-gu(1986) had newly made by analyzing SCL-90-R(1984). The collected data have been analyzed by such statistical methods as average, standard deviation, T-Test, ANOVA and Cronbach¢¥s ? Reliability test, etc, with SPSS PC+ used.
The results of a study are as follows ;
1. Mental Health
Of 257 subjects, 2.7 % had "a few problems". Their symptoms were depression, obsession, and anxiety in order. In its comparison with the standard groups, subject groups were not better in mental health than the standard groups were.
2. General characteristic and mental health
According to statistics, religion, subjects behavior on their parents and their character had significant relationship with mental health. But being or not being of their parents and their big problem had no relationship with mental health.
3. Contentment on studying and mental health
The contentment on the major course had no relationship with mental health. The contentment on the college life had significant relationship with mental health.
4. Practice and mental health
Practice, practice region, and contentment on the practice had no relationship with mental health.
